real time by maarten baas

Tuesday 29 Sep 2009

The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen is showing work by designer Maarten Baas from 26 December 2009 to 16 May 2010. This very recent winner of the Designer of the Year Award 2009 (Design Miami) shows his interpretation of time with his project Real Time.

In Real Time Maarten Baas expresses his perception of time in five film clocks: Grandfather’s Clock, Sweeper’s Clock, Analog Digital Clock, World Clock, and the Zuiderzee Clock, which he has made especially for the Zuiderzee Museum. Filmed persons take over the function of the hands and affect the way the time is shown. The project symbolizes the way of thinking of the Zuiderzee Museum with regard to time: it combines the time lines of the past and the present, instead of showing history chronologically.

Zuiderzee Clock
Baas has created the Zuiderzee Clock especially for the Zuiderzee Museum. The clock is part of the exhibition Real Time. The clock will be on show at the Design Miami in Florida from 1 to 5 December 2009. You can see how the clock was realized on YouTube. Real Time will be on show in the Zuiderzee Museum, from 26 December 2009 onwards. It is in fact the first time that the clock can be admired in this country in its entirety.
