Soft Series / Kiki van Eijk

Kiki van Eijk makes contemporary products on the basis of traditional techniques. Her sophisticated use of materials makes her work very special indeed. The objects shown here are first sewn together from textile and subsequently cast in ceramics. In this way all the properties of the textile have remained intact. The objects have a ‘soft’ aspect.

Van Eijk often draws her inspiration from old hand-made things that she finds in fleemarkets. People love things that radiate emotion. ‘I think it’s more important that my designs touch you than that they can really be used. I prefer to make truly beautiful things, but quite commonplace, actually, that people fall in love with on the spot because they’re just that bit different.’
