The Gospel / Studio Job
The Zuiderzee Museum demonstrates interrelationships between past and present, art and design, craftsmanship and abstraction. The Gospel unites all these aspects.
The installation consists of two large stained glass windows and a rusty cast-iron Last Supper service. The larger window shows the Gospel – the Glad Tidings – as well as a reference to religious pop music. It represents Studio Job’s keen perception of the life of Christ. In the round window Mary can be recognized. More than anything else, The Gospel is possibly in line with religious expressions in Volendam, with its worship of the Virgin Mary, its small family altars and crucifixes on the wall. The objects from The Gospel form the starting point of an exclusive, handmade twelve-piece service – a collector’s item – and an industrially produced service intended for the general public.
The installation was realized in conjunction with ING. Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum will produce and commercialize the two services.
