Zuiderzee Museum presents the kinship of designers
The exhibition entitled EMMY+GIJS+ALDO presents for the very first time a selection of objects designed by Emmy van Leersum, Gijs Bakker and Aldo Bakker, parents and son who occupy a special position in Dutch design. The exhibition will be on show in the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen from 31 October 2010 to 29 May 2011.
Curator Jan Boelen has compiled an exhibition on these versatile designers of jewellery, user objects and furniture. The relationship between the object and the user is the focus of attention in the presentation of three-dimensional objects, image and sound.

Essence
The presentation of the various objects alternates with information on the design process and design research. Accordingly, Boelen can demonstrate in the work of the family their common attitude and their underlying quest for the essence of a design. In addition, The Copper Collection by Aldo Bakker has also been arranged for display. This series has been purchased by the Zuiderzee Museum.
Book
The design process and research shed light on the individuality and coherence of Emmy, Gijs and Aldo. Their sources of inspiration, texts, sketches, interviews and quotes are collected in a publication that focuses on the personal relationships between the designer and the object. An autonomous visual essay accompanies the text. This contains as-yet unpublished visual material from Emmy’s archives, which have been gathered in the Stedelijk Museum ’s Hertogenbosch, and from the archives and studio of Gijs and Aldo. The publication forms a stand-alone component that is presented parallel to the exhibition.
