Discover Holland’s most beautiful open air museum. Admire more than 140 houses, workshops, shops, a church and a working windmill. Walk through authentic Dutch streets, along the old harbour with its wooden sailing vessels and experience life before the Afsluitdijk.
Every day the open air museum offers at least 30 individual venues, activities and crafts. Such as cask, sail, rope and willow basket making, a blacksmith, fish smokehouse, a steam driven laundrette and a 1920s household amongst others. You can have a fine day out at the Zuiderzee Museum.
Enjoy a visit to the museum even more by adding a tasting or a school class to your program.
Our museum guides speak English, German and French. We can also provide Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese and Russian speaking guides for your groups. If you already have a guide with your group we can provide guiding information. Guides have to be booked in advance and are subject to availability.
In our restaurants ranging from a cosy old café to a full self-service restaurant and typical Dutch function rooms we serve fine food and drinks. For tour operators packages are available for lunches and dinners. We also cater for special requests and events.
Zuiderzeemuseum – Holland Open Air Museum offers many opportunities for special and corporate events. What to think of a secluded museum at night, having the entire open air museum on your own. Depending on your client’s wishes we can create a typical Dutch experience on demand.
In 2017 crafts are the central theme in the Zuiderzeemuseum. There are no less than seven crafts to be seen daily in the open air museum: at the blacksmiths, the sailmakers, the rope walk, the basketry, the coopery or barrelmakers , the fish smokery and the steam laundry. This year there will be special attention for these traditional crafts and one can witness the passing on of the techniques from master to apprentice, thus keeping it alive for the next generations. In the indoor museum one can visit the exhibition “10 Years of Thomas Eyck”. This producer of contemporary designproducts arranges yearly meetings of designers and craftsmen to bring about an exclusive collection.
Zuiderzeemuseum – Holland Open Air Museum is located in the town of Enkhuizen. On the shores of the former Zuiderzee. Just an hour from Amsterdam’s central station.
