Choral singing in the Zuiderzee region gave expression to everyday life and religion. The Zuiderzee Museum offers choirs the opportunity to perform on the edge of the former Zuiderzee, between the characteristic houses and buildings from the period that the inland water was actually a sea.
Shanty Singers Ede are a phenomenon in Ede and far beyond. The choir even won first prize at the Vistival 2011 in Den Helder. Sung polyphonically, the repertory includes traditional shanties, international songs of the sea, and old Dutch seafarers' songs. The Ede choir has issued two CDs: 'Welkom aan Boord' and 'Anchors Aweigh'. Shanty Singers Ede have more than forty singers, accompanied by nine musicians. Piet van den Brink is the enthusiastic and skilled conductor.
