Ships Hall Permanent exhibition
The footbridge, positioned high above the ships hall floor, offers a magnificent view of the largest collection of ships of all Dutch museums. You can also make your way down and enjoy a wander around among the boats. These old, wooden ships are the museum collection’s showpieces. You will see an ‘ijsvlet’ (ice boat), a transport ship and a Frisian hunting boat, to name but a few.
Audio-visual installation
Amid the original sails of the historical Zuiderzee ships a new sail stands out, serving as the projection screen for an audio-visual installation of VJ artist Arnout Hulskamp. Take a few minutes to experience how wild the Zuiderzee can get in a storm or how still it can be at quieter times. The projection also shows the characteristic Zuiderzee botters (smacks) in action, with the fishermen labouring and laughing.
