The exhibition areas of the Zuiderzee Museum are situated in a complex of seventeenth-century warehouses on the Wierdijk. The Indoor Museum is the treasure chamber of the Zuiderzee Museum.
Temporary exhibitions display the rich collection of the Museum in an up-to-date context. In this way, the Zuiderzee Museum incorporates modern-day significance into its traditional collection. With history, photography, local folkloric costume, design and an educational family exhibition, the Indoor Museum provides something for everyone.
In addition to the temporary exhibitions, the largest collection of wooden ships in the Netherlands is also presented in the Indoor Museum. These historical wooden ships belong to the most extraordinary objects in the Museum's collection.
Not all warehouses were originally situated on the Wierdijk. Most of the buildings stood elsewhere in Enkhuizen for many years. The Peperhuis, a former warehouse belonging to the Dutch East India Company (VOC), is one of the buildings that still stands on its own original location. The VOC was primarily oriented toward trade with Asia.
