Far in advance of the closure of the Zuiderzee, the idea had already arisen to preserve the erstwhile flourishing fishing culture and to realize a museum dedicated to the Zuiderzee. In May 1947, the Association of Friends of the Zuiderzee was established. A year later, the Zuiderzee Museum was a fact. The Association then devoted effort to acquire ground and buildings and thus was the founder of what you now see in the museum. In this way, the Association of Friends has been of the utmost importance to the museum. Would you also like to become a Friend and support the museum?
For everyone who has a soft spot for the Zuiderzee Museum or who regularly visits the museum, it may be interesting to become a Friend of the museum. Members of the Association of Friends of the Zuiderzee Museum - as the club is officially called - opt for a special bond with the museum and are entitled to a few benefits over other visitors.
