Throw a ‘monkey’s fist’ like a real sailor, listen to tall stories from the seafarers, build your own dike from clay, or learn everything about the sails of a boat.
Up to October 2012 the Outdoor Museum is all about water. The Head of the Water Board, a fisherman and houseboat dwellers will talk about their lives with water. Why not begin investigating the topic yourself and discover the role of water in the Netherlands? In the past, present, and future. You can help the Head of the Water Board by taking precautionary measures. Via Skype, you can also connect to a fisherman at sea. Find out how it is to live on the water and what it was like to live on a dike in the previous century.
During the week-ends and holiday periods, the Zuiderzee Museum provides all kinds of activities for the whole family. Perceive, do, learn, experience everything that is connected to water. Children can also dress up as inhabitants of Volendam and Marken in around 1900. Or learn to write with a dip pen, just like school pupils in 1930.
Visitors with children will be treated to a special map that guarantees lots of joint family fun.
