Over the past 60 years the Zuiderzee Museum has amassed an extraordinary collection of books, old prints, annual issues of magazines, documentation and cuttings. This collection is stored in the library of the Museum.
At present the collection comprises more than 10,000 books, more than 400 magazines and around 3,000 examples of other documentary material. All titles and more than 12,000 articles can be found in an automated catalogue. The Museum has made this collection available to visitors, students, school pupils and researchers. It is not possible to borrow material from the library, although it is allowed to copy the content free of charge.
Besides the books, you can also make use of the data in the collection archives and the archives of the open-air premises. Our collection of around 50,000 photos, slides and picture postcards display images of traditional costume, ships, fishing scenes, old crafts and the Zuiderzee engineering works, as well as historical and topographical pictures of the former Zuiderzee region. In addition, the Museum also has at its disposal a unique collection of old picture postcards from the German and Danish Wadden Sea and North Sea islands.
The library covers a large number of themes, such as agricultural and natural history, architecture, biographies, culture and museological instances, traditional costume, shipping, fishing, and the Zuiderzee engineering works.
