Journey Around the Zuiderzee Permanent exhibition

Join us on a Journey around the Zuiderzee and discover the top pieces of the museum’s collection, the personal stories and the interactive exhibits about life in this area! Look for the similarities and differences in traditions, dialects, regional wear and the various crafts and trades of the Zuiderzee cities and villages.

Starting from the City of Enkhuizen, you will travel along the Afsluitdijk (the Great IJsselmeer Dam) to the islands in the Wadden Sea and from there to several old cities in the province of Friesland such as Hindeloopen and Makkum. Then you move on to the former island of Urk and, via the villages of Nunspeet and Spakenburg, to the final destination: Volendam.

On the way, there will be plenty to do – for both young and old: compose a Hindeloopen interior, play a game of table football between the Blues and the Reds and show what you know about the Zuiderzee in a quiz!

Here is one of many visitors’ reactions:
“We spent a lovely Saturday afternoon at your wonderful indoor museum. Thank you very much.”

Pay a Visit to the Zuiderzee Museum and experience life around this former inland sea – now the IJsselmeer – in this permanent exhibition!
