The Treasure House
Step across the threshold of the Treasure House and enter the treasure trove of the Zuiderzee. The Zuiderzee Museum’s rich collection has been gathered since the 1950s and continues to grow. Colourful traditional costumes, hand-painted cupboards and tables, along with tools and everyday objects, bring the past to life. Maps, photographs, and visual art transport you back to the places and people from before the Zuiderzee was closed off. The museum collection is presented through a contemporary lens, in which ancient traditions are given new meaning, while current developments take centre stage in modern art and culture.

The buildings of the Treasure House
The Treasure House comprises a series of connected buildings, each with its own history, much like the houses in the Zuiderzee Village. A stroll along the façades of the Wierdijk and the Kade immediately reveals that this impressive row of historic buildings has many stories to tell. One of the most striking buildings is a former warehouse of the Dutch East India Company. Not all the buildings originally stood here, as some were relocated, such as two warehouses from the Waaigat in Enkhuizen. Museum staff carefully dismantled them stone by stone and then restored them in all their glory along the Wierdijk. Step across the threshold of the Treasure House and enter the treasure trove of the Zuiderzee.
