Dressing-up cabinet
No sneakers, but clogs. No jeans, but a long skirt that fans around your legs. Not a cap, but a so-called karpoets on your head.
For this program, the participants dress up in clothes that children in the Zuiderzee area used to wear about a hundred years ago. In this way they can discover the secrets and functions of the garments of different regional costumes.
After the program, students know why on the island Marken boys used to wear a so-called 'gezondheid' (health) and that in Volendam boys wore a 'paling' (eel) around their neck. And what beautiful aprons the girls of Marken wore! Or, hang on … isn't that actually a boy?
Goal
Students are introduced to the various traditional costumes from around the Zuiderzee and learn to see the connection with present-day clothing and fashion in the Netherlands.
