Twee meisjes in een roeibootje op het water.

Expedition Waterworks

Cornelis Lely – the brilliant water worker who came up with the idea of the Afsluitdijk – is seeking successors who can keep this country dry and safe in the future. Do you think you're a good water worker? Then join this expedition and show us what you can do! During the expedition you can carry out all sorts of assignments on land and sea. As you go along, you collect secret signs that will enable you to crack the water worker code in the end.

This expedition, which will bring you to different places on land and sea, starts in the water workshop. Here you'll find out that it's quite a job to build a strong dike. Once you're outside again, you'll take a test: are you a landlubber or a real water worker who's got his sea legs? Go on a crisis exercise in the maze and prove that you know what to do if there's a flood. Row to the lost islands of the Zuider Zee and find out if you can keep your feet dry, like the villagers of Marken. Climb the crane and look for secret sign in the dike. Catch a fish on Urk, defend Pampus with your water cannon and help evacuate Schokland. Have you accomplished all assignments? Then crack the water worker code and get your well-deserved reward!

Expedition Waterworks is open from April 26 to September 21, 2026.
