Sea of stories, a fascinating, interactive permanent exhibition for everyone. Meet former as well as current inhabitants of the Zuiderzee region, and listen to their stories about their daily lives, their work, clothes, homes and how they spent what little leisure time they had. About their past and present customs and feasts and fests. And about their eternal struggle against the water and the construction of the dike that changed everything: the Afsluitdijk.
A sea of stories is ideal for families with children. There is a special children’s narrative: Berend goes back in time with the children, to a hundred years ago! He shows them how children used to live, and he has an answer to all of their questions. Did children eat chips in the old days? What kind of work did children do and what sort of clothes did they wear? Marretje the seagull takes our youngest visitors on an exciting journey. They climb on board of a fishing boat, lay stones in a dike or make a ride on a fairground horse. And don’t forget to test your knowledge in the then-and-now memory game; can you make the correct combination of historical and modern objects?
